My work begins without a fixed image or a clear plan. I paint intuitively, allowing colour, gesture and material to lead the way. Faces and forms often emerge along the way, revealing something I may not have known was there.
I am a self-taught painter and French–Greek visual artist based in Athens,
signing my work simply as Val.
With a background in graphic design, I bring a strong awareness of composition, colour and visual structure to my painting, while allowing instinct and the physical act of painting to lead the process
I paint to discover what wants to emerge — and to give it a place to exist.
